I’m A Failed Writer #14: Project Mismanagement

(failed writer video)

So when I showed my friend Michael Schechter an early version of this video, he said, “you are out of your mind.” Actually, he had a more colorful way to say it. Partly, this was because we had just sampled ten different beers at Hopworks Urban Brewery. But also, the original video made it sound like I was done making videos… so long, schmucks!

Check out the updated video and hopefully you’ll see that I’m not going anywhere far…

Brave decision to stop doing what you love the most (okay I assume that's behind the wife and child). I balance a lot of projects because my bills are paid by my project management consultancy. I figure that gives me an advantage and a disadvantage. Advantage = I'm skilled in Project Management. Disadvantage = let me tell you a little story about the shoemaker's children going barefoot. :)

I tend to shuffle my timelines to find the room in my life for writing and publishing.

Good luck .

@Perryw Wow. I'm interested in your take on the pros and cons of being a project manager by day... Sounds sort of similar to how I'm married to a massage therapist and so I no longer get massages :)

@yuvizalkow Oh, my, I think I would miss the massages more than I miss adherence to project deadlines. :)

I find the biggest benefit is that I can put a schedule together that gives me an idea when my next book is ready - usually a 4 - 6 month process. The biggest downfall is when I let myself get more worried about my timelines than about the book.
